RE: Do you think Rick would make a good dad? Why or why not?

I don't think so. While the idea of visitation with Gloria and Krystal sounded good, I am not sure it would have helped Ginny in the long run. Perhaps it would have, but the fact it was prevented by the court meant he shouldn't have brought it up as an option. He also seemed reckless with his drinking and violating Brian's trust by approaching and talking to Ginny before the appointed time. He, like Gloria, seemed more in tune with his own feelings and desires than what was best for Ginny.

I think he really wanted to be a good dad, but didn't have the right tools to do that. This would be such a complicated situation to step into. Maybe if he could have more time with supervision, but I think it would have been a mistake to ship Ginny off to his house as a solution.

RE: Do you think Rick would make a good dad? Why or why not?

I think Rick saw Ginny a lot more clearly than Brian and Maura did (especially Maura). His comment about the fact that they were trying to keep her apart from everything and what she needed was to be close to people was right on the money. And I agreed with him wholeheartedly when he said he didn’t like the way they were treating her. He may not have been a perfect parent but I think his ability to see that she could be “a delightful young lady” certainly should merit his continued involvement in her life.

I think Rick's heart was in the right place, but lacked the maturity to understand all that Ginny had been through. Plus, she was adopted by the Moon's and he needed to respect that. I actually was disappointed when Maura let him into Ginny's life. On the other hand, he did connect with Ginny and communicated well with her. But I think if he was in charge of her 24/7 it might not work out as well.

I agree with leslieh above. He had very good intentions. He was interested in being a good dad and excited by the discovery that he was a parent, but he lacked the insight and maturity - at least at this time in his life - to properly care for her.

I think Rick had some good qualities, but the fact that he was connected with Gloria and felt that she should have some place in Ginny's life bothered me. I don't think he was aware of the extent of Gloria's abuse and neglect of her child. I think at the time that he showed up in the story, Maura was looking for a way out of keeping Ginny at the Blue House and saw Rick as a viable alternative.

I really don't think so. I gather he is on the road a lot. It is also easier to see others making mistakes. His idea that Maura and Brian should have let Ginny receive the presents, but he has not been there for Gloria's attempts to contact Ginny. I would hope they do keep in contact.

I think he means well, but he is on the rad with his truck driving business. I think he was correct in stating that Maura was a bit too controlling of Ginny. Hope he stays in contact with Ginny

I do believe his heart is in the right place as evidenced by his comment .... “I just wish someone would talk about what a delightful young lady she is,” a frustrated Rick says. “We’re trying to keep her apart from everything... but I think what she needs is to be closer to people.”

Yes, I do. He certainly does not have the financial stability of the Moons, but I do feel he had genuine love and empathy. There are no perfect parents, especially when dealing with special needs and the effects of trauma. In some ways I felt he listened to Ginny's needs more than the Moons.

Rick had no idea what it would be like being a dad to Ginny. He liked the idea of having a connection with someone but he really didn't have the parenting instinct. He didn't have the ability to commit like he would need to to take care of Ginny.

RE: Do you think Rick would make a good dad? Why or why not?

Rick may have been a good dad for someone without autism. He was laid back and some children thrive with a more relaxed parent. Ginny needed someone who could give her structure and a framework each day. She was anxious when events deviated from the way they were supposed to happen. She liked Rick for what he might do for her - give her a ride to meet up with her mother. She would have had issues even if she was with him for a couple of days, so it was good that her visit was canceled.

I don't think Rick understood the role of father. He struck me as the type of guy wanting to be his child's friend more than parent. He seems to have good intentions but lacking the ability to fully execute his parental role
