Ginny may be sexually immature at this point, but human primates usually develop a sex drive just like most mammals. The danger for Ginny in the future could be confusing a pedophile's actions with sincere human love and companionship Anyone who is familiar with different types of boarding facilities or managed care facilities for people of assorted ages has seen physical intimacy (or the attempt at) and affection between humans.

No, I don't agree. I think there are hints that Ginny was interested in romance, though perhaps she wasn't at a point where it made a lot of sense in her life. Larry treated her with great tenderness & concern & I believe she had the capacity to return those feelings. Perhaps Larry was not the right person & it was not the right time to think about romance, but I believe that she will find a romantic partner in the future.

To me, there was clear evidence that Ginny was sexually molested by Gloria's boyfriend, the one whose cat she killed. She would always try to change her train of thought when she remembered him. Perhaps that abuse has resulted in a delay of her normal romantic feelings. I think that with time and sufficient therapy, Ginny will one day have the ability to love someone romantically.

She has problems making friends but she is only 14. She my have been molested as well. One hopes that she wouldn't get involved in a bad relationship. Seeing the change in her "baby" and the interest in her new little sister should help her to develop some other feelings as she gets older. Remember she is only 14.

Ginny was first and foremost interested in protecting and caring for her baby doll, possibly as has been suggested, because she, herself, was molested by Gloria's boyfriend. She is young, and she is focusing on one period of her life. Once that is resolved for her, she will be able to move ahead and experience a more normal growth pattern. I absolutely believe she will be capable of felling and accepting great affection and care for and by another another - she has demonstrated that by her devotion to her baby doll and the new baby - as well as adults in her life.

I agree that there were hints that Ginny was sexually molested by Gloria's boyfriend. At one point, I even wondered if baby doll was Ginny's child but she was too young to have conceived at that point. All in all, her loyalty towards her younger sister was one of the most admirable parts of the book.

Yes she is physically 14 years old, but in her mind she is not that old. I'm not sure about sexual abuse but just witnessing the abuse her birth mother went through was enough to not trust men in general. Given time and the loving family life she now has at the end of the book, Ginny may meet a young man some day that she feels safe enough with to love in a romantic way. It will then bring up new challenges to face such as safe sex, birth control, marriage, etc.

At some point, biology will take over and hormones will appear and Ginny will react to those hormones. I believe she will have difficulty establishing a relationship, as much due to early abuse from men as her autism. I do think at some point she will have a "friendship" where trust builds over time. My main concern would be for someone to take advantage of her as she might shut down rather than protect herself.

Never interested in romance but once her body matures, she may have physical desires that she won't know what to do with. Romance is connected with love and she feels responsibility, not sure she feels love.

Without knowing the true severity of her autism her openness to romance is an unknown. If you removed her autism from consideration, it's understandable she wouldn't be interested in close relationships. Her mother had dysfunctional relationships with men. She was in prior foster homes where her foster parents kept "giving her back" to the system. It's no wonder she was gun-shy about getting too attached to anyone, let alone having a boyfriend.

She was finally in a good home and had positive role models in a committed relationship when her life went sideways and she was almost kicked out of another home. Thankfully, at the end of the book it looked like life was headed in a positive direction.

She is only 14 and pretty immature. She was probably molested so hopefully, will be able to address this before being involved with anyone. I believe eventually she will have these wants and needs.

I think that if she were to find someone who thinks and reacts to life and it's challenges like she does she will be fine

I do not believe that Ginny will have a normal romantic relationship. She may have feelings, but I do not think she will act on them. My worry is that someone will try to take advantage of her again. I hope her family can help her deal with this. I not think the Mother can, but perhaps the Father.

I believe Ginny understands different levels of love. I feel she will experience romance in her lifetime. She understood perfectly well Larry's affection towards her, only her feelings toward him were friendship based as opposed to the romantic flavor
