Fenna is shocked when her colleagues at MI9 suggest that Arie turned on his unit. Do you think her response was expected? What would you do if such an accusation was made against someone you love?

that woudl be a tough thing to accept. If I loved someone and thought I knew them, then I think I wouldnot believe it either. If you've trusted someone with your love, then I think I could not believe it. And if Fenna was smart, she'd have to think they were not telling her everything!

It was a ‘suggestion’ that he turned on his unit, no facts provided. She was right to seek the truth with caution. She then threw caution to the wind in helping him save the child. Essentially Arie had to die or be charged with treason. He acted with ‘the end justifies the means’ which is always a risky route to take.

Well spy could mean for or against your country. In Aries case it’s difficult to say which is the right response. If he was saving my child I’d absolutely applaud him, but in this case, so many allied soldiers or civilians could have been killed for the safety of one person. In the greater cause it cannot be justified. It was a personal action with expected consequences.

If you really believe you know someone well and understand his/her core characteristics, it is extremely difficult to accept as true an assertion that they behaved in a way that is contrary to your understanding. So it was natural for Fenna, who knew Arie well, to reject any assertion that he would be disloyal to his country or peers. But it was wartime! And with so much at stake? What a horrible moral dilemma for Fenna, beautifully crafted and portrayed by McMorris.
