Safe Book Club Ideas in the Time of Social Distancing

As we physically distance ourselves from one another to protect public health, staying socially connected remains vital to our sense of community and well-being. For many of us, book clubs are an essential part of that connection, and fortunately, there are a number of options for moving your in-person book club online, joining up with an online club or creating one from scratch. My long-time book group had a very successful Zoom meeting a couple of nights ago. We discussed Patrick Radden Keefe's Say Nothing. We did a test run early in the week, used the leader who was scheduled to lead the discussion in our regular (in -home meeting) format, and talked for over a hour -- about the amount of time our normal meetings last, minus some social time. We are a community Book Club in Sydney and took our meeting online with Zoom
We had a practice a few days earlier and then had our meeting at the usual time
We discussed Girl Woman other by Bernardine Evaristo
Obviously not all were able to connect and we had email reviews added into the meeting
Hopefully next month we will have more onlineHowever it worked well and meeting was very similar to normal and it was great to see and connect with each other
