They came more often now, the headaches. Raging storms
within his skull, crippling pain, flashes of light. There was
nothing to do but shut his eyes and lie back, let the pain and
visions take over.
Memories and flashbacks trailed the headaches. Jack would
close his eyes and see blue sky, green jungle, red road. He would
try to watch the trees outside his window divesting themselves
of leaves, the slow spinning fall of September, but instead he
saw the leaves of the jungle, leaves so big you could sit inside
them and be wholly encased, leaves which vibrated and
twitched and reacted to your presence as if sentient beings.
They'd arrived in the middle of a heat wave. David buckled
as he exited the plane, feet planted on the stairway, the sun
leaching all colour and breath from his face. He stood there and
took in the burned yellow country in front of him then turned
back into the plane as if the pilot had made a mistake‚ but Jack
was right ...
I have done my share of deep and heavy reading this summer, so it was a great pleasure to read a crime fiction novel by an author new to me. Not that A Dark Redemption wasn’t deep and sometimes heavy, but it is an ideal read for the end of summer: entertaining, compelling, yet addressing issues that stay with us as we return from the beach or vacation...continued

Stav Sherez is the author of four books of crime fiction. He was born and raised in London and has persevered with his lifelong ambition to write novels despite the challenges found in the book business today. In his case this meant facing multiple rejections until he found the right agent and publisher.
His official author bio is one of the shortest around and after much searching I found out why. He wanted it that way. In a 2005 interview with book dealer Adam Smith, Sherez fleshes out his life history, just a bit. "(O)kay: grew up in London, Latymer Upper School, several girlfriends, a car, the usual teenage stuff then Art History degree from the university of Leeds.
