Although I enjoyed the book, when I read the last chapter, I though "is that it?". I found it underwhelming. There was no great turn of events, no twists, no resolutions and just dragged on and on about cotton and farming. I found it a nice fluffy read, not what I'm used to from this author.

Travelled last fall to southern Ill.I had the chance to feel the spirit of the mid west and the Missisippy region.I´m from southern Germany and was overwhelmed by `a painted house`Took me back to my memories to be 7 year old Boy.Thank you Mr.Grisham

Review (not rated) by CHRIS TAYLOR
I have read some of John Grisham's other books, The Chamber, Time to Kill and Pelican Brief, also seen the associated films,
but I have to say 'A Painted House' is just his finest. As a Blues, Cajun and Country music fan I have always been fascinated by the people and landscapes of the deep South, the history and struggles that produced the music- its all there in John Grishams novels.
The greatest American writer since Steinbeck. Chris Taylor, UK

I also grew up in the Arkansas Delta. I read A Painted Houseafter seeing the TV movie. The movie hit home but the book brings to the surface images from my own childhood. I have read most of Mr. Grisham's books and plan to read the rest this year. Although I am interested in law and reading about the south I find his books easy to read and satisfying. A Painted House slowly pulls you in. You learn to care about the characters and the hard life they live. I hope Mr. Grisham continues to write about "people" regardless of the setting.

This book was exceptionally well written. It was a nice change for John to write about something other than, Lawyer based thrillers. I loved the plot and the characters were so real. I found it hard to put the book down. Nice job John I am waiting for your next book.
