This was a beautiful, exciting, sad, happy and altogether elegant story. The author created a world in which I thoroughly enjoyed losing myself. I intentionally waited to read it until I had time to read it in just a few sittings. I’m glad I did. This is the kind of book that wraps it’s setting around you as you read. The imagery is both delicate and strong and always beautiful even in the darker parts of the story. At its heart a love story, the book is about a competition between magicians that takes place within a mysterious circus that seems to appear and disappear and is only open at night. Its storylines weave in and around each other and forward and backward in time in a way that feels almost like a dance. There is a distinct elegance to the writing and the story that takes the reader on a wonderful journey.

I really enjoyed this book! The style of writing is unique in that the perspectives and point of view changes quite frequently throughout the book as each chapter is told through the voice of a different character. The author is wonderful at creating settings that become extraordinary rich and vivid in your mind while reading it. The use of words are deliciously creative...poetic almost, and the mysterious plot with magical mystical elements kept me wanting to read more....what a fun book! I feel like people of all ages would enjoy it : )

This book will be a hit! It contains everything that could be imagined to carry it on a magical, fantastic journey including a love interest, a fantastic competition, beautiful women and mysterious men. Altho it is not my favorite genre, I loved the story of the competition and the author created many beautiful, magical tents that I wanted to visit. The only problem that I had was the jumping around of dates - I had to keep returning to the chapter pages to see where we were in time. The fantasy tents were certainly wonders to behold and the author found the right words to convey the aura and magic of the Night Curcus. I'd visit in a minute!

I highly recommend this book to anyone one who enjoys magical tales. The story isn’t fast moving, but each scene was so vivid that I just savored every word. It was highly creative and the story was well put together. I read it every chance I could get, yet I didn’t want it to end.

"Like stepping into a fairy tale under a curtain of stars (p.143). This quote from Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus captures my reaction to this unusual novel. Coming from a reader who does not list fantasy as a genre of choice, these words of praise may be more compelling. A tender love story, a dark and devious competition, and a stage for myriad actors and characters, this circular novel pulls the reader into its thrall and captures the imagination. As Morganstern slips from the third person point of view into the second throughout the book, so I invite you to don a red scarf, join the line to slip into Le Cirque des Reves, seek out the fortune teller and have her cast the stars to read the future -- one that is never set in stone.

Fantastical journey!! Ms. Morgenstern has done an outstanding job of creating a truly magical world - sharing each and every incredible detail with the reader until we too are transported along with it's wonderful characters. .. I did not want the book to end and it has stayed with me long after I read (and reread) the last line... Thank you to Ms. Morgenstern for reminding me of why I am a reader!
A bold, mesmerizing novel about the woman known as "Typhoid Mary," the first known healthy carrier of typhoid fever in the burgeoning metropolis of early twentieth century New York.
Z, the novel about the life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald is at points charming and; like another reviewer, I kept thinking of the movie, "Midnight...
