Not a word but describes my reaction to the book! I agree with Mr. Leonard when he wrote that it's a great read! Reminded me of a Robert Altman film with all kinds of unharmonic convergences on many different planes. Am at a loss to describe my reaction but I highly recommend it for a wild ride in anything but Niceville.

This supernatural suspense novel has something for everyone. There are so many characters and different plots and subplots, that everyone will find something interesting in here (even if you might be bored by some of the novel's elements). I really enjoyed the Southern Gothic feel of the book and the depth of characterization. Some of the numerous stories/events didn't fit nicely into a cohesive whole, but I was quite entertained nonetheless.

Kind of a southern gothic, Niceville is a town with a few other worldly characters who calmly murder in cold blood and then take a literate note of their surroundings. This is a really good read that has sharp dialogue and those calculating masters of murder and mayhem. The story flows and although the ending is a little too abrupt, it will captivate you and make you wish for more.

The writing reminded me of a cross between Greg Isles and Stephen King; very visual and moved right along. There is an odd supernatural theme that while central to the story, seemed to actually interfere with the flow of the book. Enjoyed it nevertheless. Look forward to more from this author.

In all honestly, I would like to give the book 3.5 stars. It's definitely a unique supernatural suspense thriller that had me sometimes riveted and sometimes bored. It was a challenge to keep the characters straight as there were SO MANY of them! It also took quite a while to see how everyone was connected, which was sometimes frustrating. But the characters were very interesting, quirky, well developed and so unusual! Finally, I must mention that I finished the book with quite a few questions left unanswered. That is always a problem for me, I need everything resolved to truly rate any book as a "must read". But it definitely was entertaining.

Although I am usually not a fan of the supernatural or things that go bump in the night, Niceville proved to be very entertaining. The variety of characters and subplots kept it from getting too "out there". I live in the south and the people here do seem to treasure their family legends and eccentrics. All in all, a very enjoyable read.
