This is the second book in the Piper Donovan Mystery series, featuring a young actress turned wedding cake designer. I enjoyed book as a quick read, but I yearned for more character and plot development. The characters, even Piper, seemed one-dimensional, not really coming alive on the page. Having nailed the culprit early on, I was hoping for plot twists to throw me off. I felt that the story was in a serious need of a more judicious editing. There was a boatload of unresolved filler, which probably only served to bring up the page count and annoy the reader.

The Look of Love is a fast paced mystery. Piper, the main character, is likable and relatable. I enjoyed this mystery as it was very light and quick to read, however it was a little predictable in my opinion. I can see this being a very good beach read.

This story has a bit of everything--mystery, romance and even a recipe for icing! The read was fast and easy, too easy. The chapters were very short and did not help with the continuity of the story. The conclusion was very predictable and the mystery did not keep you guessing.

Unfortunately I was very disappointed with this book. It was too fluffy, disjointed, and the chapters were too short. It was hard to follow the story because Mary Jane Clark jumped around so much with the characters. Definitely not a book I would recommend to anyone to read and wouldn't be interested in reading any more books by this author.

The Look of Love was an OK story to read, and the author had a good writing style, but I thought the characters lacked depth. The relationships (especially the one between Piper, the heroine, and Jack, her boyfriend), were not well developed. And, I didn't think it was necessary or even added to the story to include the descriptions of how to make the icing and the cake for the wedding. It was fine to have the recipes at the end of the book. That was a nice touch, but the description was not needed in the text of the book. I really don't think I am interested in reading another Piper Donovan mystery.

Arriving just before the pre-Halloween snowstorm here in the Northeast, this easy-going mystery was a pleasant way to set aside the premature winter outside the window. The plot, if not horribly original, held my interest. The killer wasn't too difficult to figure out, but there were enough red herrings to make you wonder if your guess was correct. My biggest issue relates to sentence and chapter length - both very short, which didn't seem to fit the otherwise "cozy" genre of the book.
A bold, mesmerizing novel about the woman known as "Typhoid Mary," the first known healthy carrier of typhoid fever in the burgeoning metropolis of early twentieth century New York.
Z, the novel about the life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald is at points charming and; like another reviewer, I kept thinking of the movie, "Midnight...
