Stephanie Plum, look out!
When I received the book, I was a bit put off by the vibrant pink ModSquad cover. I was afraid that instead of being funny and interesting that the book was just going to be stupid. But I was not disappointed--the writing is sharp and funny, and the character interesting...makes me want to read the next adventure. Good to see a female character that can take care of herself!

Too Much of a Good Thing
This is a difficult book to evaluate. I enjoyed Ms. McMullen's sense of humor and was chuckling while I was reading it, but I reached a point where I was satiated with the incessant humor and needed a break. Since I was interested in the story, like spy novels and wanted to see how it ended, I eventually finished it. I believe this is a good first effort. This type of book is difficult to write.

Original Sin
Beth McMullen is a California resident and that is all I can tell you or….I'll have to shoot you.
This is her debut novel about Lucy Hamilton; spy, stay-at-home Mom to Theo, and wife to Will a tree hugger.
We meet Lucy crawling around her backyard looking for something or someone her intuition has alerted her senses. We learn that her paranoia is because she had been a spy by the name of Sally Sin.
This fell a little short on the comic side for me and I was not thrilled by the flashbacks, as they seemed a little contrived and not flowing. It is a good story and has well described characters especially Ian Blackford her former handler. I think future novels will be better.
This is reminiscent of Jane Doe on Hallmark Mysteries.

Exciting Debut Novel
What an exciting debut novel! The storyline in fun, the heroine is quirky and strong, and the complexity of the storyline will allow for an entire series! I simply cannot wait for more. This fun book will make you wonder about that neighbor of yours, you know, the one who had mad judo skills and perfectly manicured nails, who seems really well versed on obscure third world governments and their access to yellow cake uranium. Yeah, that one. Sally Sin, ex-spy must protect her new family from her hidden past, save the world, and clean applesauce from the ceiling. When her ex-boss starts playing his old games and using her as bait for the bad guy, Sally knows she must beat the 'bad' guys as well as the 'good' guys at their own game if she wants to have a chance at a normal life.

A Fun Escape
Original Sin is a fun and fast read... totally enjoyable! What stay-at-home mom (or any mom, really) doesn't want to be a spy?? Ms. McMullen describes a relatable motherhood with a major entertaining twist. Fun, fun, fun!

Original Sin
This book was a very good first book. It took me a while to get into it but then it was read to the end. Sometimes Sally Sin is a little too clever with the jargon for my tastes, but most of the time it was an enjoyable read.
