This is one of the best book I had read through out the year, however I was slightly disapointed as the plot of the book grew weaker through the Dark Material Series.I recommand this book to 20 and under.

This book was great but the wording could use a tune-up.

To me.This is an amazing book that takes me into the worlds i can only dream about! It's the conclusion of His Dark Materials Trilogy . I recommend this book to anyone who knows how to read, because without it, you will miss all of the good stuff!. IT's just as good as The Lord Of The Rings series and the Harry Potter series. It really is a great book trust me you got to read this book. And i'm hoping they could turn the whole dark material books into a great film even better than lord of the rings and harry potter series.

The first two parts of the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy are fabulous, but neither of those compare to the standard set by 'The Amber Spyglass'. It is the best book ever written (which is fact not opinion), and if you haven't read it what have you been playing at? It takes you on such an amazing emotional rollercoaster, and it let me experience emotions that I never thought were possible to feel whil reading books. It is truly heartbreaking and parts of it left me in floods of tears - and I hadn't reached the ending! I still cry myself to sleep after about the fifth time of reading it, and a book that can do that is spectacular. It's so deep and thought-provoking and even people who don't understand all of it will love it! The religious side is no problem to me, it's a good theory and opinion. With Christmas coming up, I strongly urge anyone who has not yet read it to get it. If you don't you really are missing out big time! Your life really won't be complete without this trilogy, it's for anyone who loves reading, and even those who don't.

lOvEd the book.. i liked the first two as well, but this one was soo good. yeh there are a few dark things in the book, but that's where knowing what to let your children read comes into play. a lot of people dont realize that these books arent really directed towards children. i'm a feverent christian, but i still liked the book, so dont let fear of having your ideologies challenged stop you from indulging in awesome literature. towards the end the book i was absolutely bawling, which is hard for a book to do to me. i think it's good to subject yourself to other theories of what role God has, but dont feel pressured by them. the most common mistake i see is when people totally overanalyze the book and accuse the author of trying to push their opinions out on their readers. you have the choice to read each book you pick up, and you also have the choice to just enjoy it or to stress yourself and be overanalytical. just bask in pullman's awesome writing and enjoy yourself with this book.

but, i do think the religous part of this story, might trouble me just a bit. if u ignore that, and c the good in it and all that.. ull c how REALLY good these books r.

This is a review from a children's librarian. So many parents allow their children to check these books out, and then when they talk to the child about the book, they are outraged and come storming into the library. I read hundreds of books every year, and this is definitely one of the darkest. This series, if you are religious or even just believe in God, will shock you. It is the story of Armageddon, except God is now old and feeble and doesn't help the world, and Satan is a much more benevolent being and if he ruled the world, the world would be a much better place. The plot gets worse from there. Many will say these books are beautifully written, but the vindictiveness behind the philosophy of this book (written by a confirmed atheist) is quite ugly. What amazes me is that since 85% of the population professes belief in God that these books have become so popular. Most of the world's religions - Christians, Jews, Muslims - would not agree with the philosophies of these books. I deal with hundred of children every day, and I promise you these books will impact a child a lot more than they would impact an adult. Adults discern philosophies and manage to get past them while still maintaining their basic belief system. Children and teens do not have this luxury. The books they read and the movies they watch form their foundation of beliefs and philosophies. As their guardian, parents are responsible for helping form these beliefs and philosophies toward life, moral values, and religion. Please be careful with these books.
