I read this book when I was twelve and going through tough times. I read it again a year later and was amazed at how it still spoke to me. It's good to know that there are other girls going through the same things. I still cry every time I read the chapter on self-inflicted wounds, but it also helps me get through that part of my life. Every adult who wonders what goes on in their daughter's life should read thi book. And every girl who wants to know she's not alone should, too. Thank you to the girls who contributed and to Sara for listening to their stories,to our stories.

I read this book as a junior in high school and now, 5 years later, I picked it up again for another read and realize how truly amazing a work this is. Compiling works from a variety of young females gives perspective like no other. I reccommend this book to any female, young or old. It is a great read and truly a shoulder to lean on.

I read Ophelia Speaks for the first time as a 15 year old high school sophmore. In the four years since that first reading, I have not only re-read the book, but also bought copies for friends, aquaintances and family members. Every single experience I have had to deal with in the past four years has been shared by at least one of the extremely talented essayists catalogued in Ophelia Speaks. This book should be a must read for all adolescent girls. Through it's pages, we hear not just Ophelia, but an entire generation of young women, speak.

I'm seventeen and I received this book as a gift for my thirteenth birthday and I've probably read the book twenty times in those four years. I think that everything written in it is true and it has influenced me greatly. Sara is a role model to us all and I am very greatful that she had the courage, drive and ambition to write such an honest book. To every girl who submitted a story, I commend you and I feel fortunate to be in a generation of such excellent women. Though the expression may be redundant, i feel it is applicable..."Girl Power!"

I will make this short and sweet. This book is worth reading, whether you are a teenage girl or not. I'm not necessarily suggesting that grown men will snuggle up with this strong feministic read, but if they could handle it I'm sure they would! Sarah Shandler's idea for this book flourished into a Chicken Soup For The Courageous and Honest Soul.

Ophelia Speaks is truely one of the best books I've ever read. I used to think I was the only one who felt these thingsand I didnt know how to handle them, after reading this book I realized that other girls are confused and hurting too. Please let there be a second book to come out and further bond females.
