Who does
This is one "gift book" that was definitely NOT appreciated by this reader. It is poorly written and tedious to read. While categorized as 'current events' it reads like part fiction/part fantasy. Does "Dr." Gregg really expect a reader to believe that he, a bum-turned-moocher, actually is privy to presidential phone log information? Or was driven directly from the airport, and allowed to mourn, casket side of Mother Theresa? Give me a break. Don't bother wasting your time with this book. Go out and do something really meaningful for your local school. PS: I've always believed everyone is entitled to their view. I will be curious to see if BookBrowse publishes a negative review.

three cups of tea
This book shows the nature of human courage & fortitude. Bringing light of knowledge to a deprived & backward area is the noblest & kindest mission. Greg Mortenson has written a vivid tale of his educating mission. I think this book should be read by every leader of Pakistan to learn the ways of doing things in bringing their country forward. It teaches us that we can with a little effort can make the future of the backward regions a story of success. It is inspiring and shows us all the way to remove the darkness of ignorance and bringing hope where there was none. Arman Najmi, India

excellent
Captivating, heart-breaking, inspiring narrative of a man who fought terrorism and its factories in rural Pakistan and Afghanistan by building schools to children mostly girls. You will feel proud you are American.

Not worth the time
Shoddily written, shameless self-promotion by a pedestrian writer who is full of himself.

Reading the book improves your own life.
Reading this book improved my world view. At a time when humans walking around the Middle East seem less than desirable, Mortenson's detailed description of his friends and contacts revived my spirit and even helped me become a better person because I loved his work, I loved his achievements and I loved the people he described so vividly. His remarkable efforts and achievements uplift everyone's spirit. I wanna do what he did!!

A Must Read
Nutrition for mind, heart and soul...best describes my experience reading Three Cups of Tea. Mortenson embraces the culture of a simple yet highly sophisticated world...fulfills a promise to give back to a community who takes him in...and teaches us through his persistence and humility...what is takes to truly understand the world behind the headlines and news briefs! Reading Three Cups of Tea will be a worthwhile endeavor!

Three cups of Tea
I was given this book by a dear friend, who said, this is a must read! I had a hard time getting past the first two chapters then the book started sailing. I admire Greg Mortenson 100% but when it came to his being alone with the body of Mother Teresa and mournign her death, I felt perhaps I was reading a book of fiction. However, I could not put this book down and have recommended this book to a local book club!

Three Cups of Tea
Wonderful book. Could not put it down.

Wish there were more people in the world like Greg Mortenson but I can't help but wonder if he like so many who give of themselves with a passion, will his hand of friendship be bitten by those he helps.

Couldn't help but think is he blind to their own governments motives for allowing him such freedom will these schools be taken over used for oppression rather than expansion of thought and knowledge. Or am I being cynical. Nevertheless the world needs more people like Greg who are not afraid to step up and be counted whatever the cost.
Wonderful wonderful book
