Announcing New Look BookBrowse Website

October 29, 2008. California --- Today BookBrowse, one of the most popular and well respected independent book websites, unveiled a new-look to better showcase its extensive content.

"The new site design is the result of over 6 months of development, with considerable input from our members who have been involved in every step of the process," said Davina Morgan-Witts, CEO of BookBrowse.  "The result is a truly collaborative effort in which we've merged the best ideas from many creative minds into one site."

"Our original site layout was effective, but over time had begun to look outdated. As we were constantly adding new content and capabilities, the older layout was becoming more difficult and complicated to use.  We needed to go back to our core value – recommending only the best current books and providing all of the information a visitor needs to find the book that's just right for them - and rebuild around that user-centric objective."

With the clear objective of making the site easier to use, more appealing and more interactive for its visitors, technology such as widgets, social networking, and AJAX have been integrated into the site. This enables BookBrowse to simultaneously enhance the information while making it easier for visitors to find what they're looking for.  "Initial feedback has been excellent", said Ms. Morgan-Witts. "We set ourselves aggressive targets, and I am proud to say that we have met them."

New and enhanced BookBrowse features include:

  • Interactive online magazines with in-depth reviews and the stories behind the books.
  • Previews of 80-100 high profile and notable books publishing the following month, including the book jacket summary and abbreviated prepublication reviews.
  • Thousands of author bios, hundreds of author interviews and a growing list of difficult to pronounce author names with their phonetic spelling.
  • Advice on every aspect of starting and running a book club, including interviews with book clubs and hundreds of discussion guides.
  • Handpicked read-alikes for thousands of books.
  • The ability to browse and cross reference by more than 70 themes, including by time period and geographical setting.

About BookBrowse

BookBrowse was founded by Davina Morgan-Witts in 1997, and currently delivers about 1.5 million page views to over 300,000 unique visitors monthly (Google Analytics Aug-Oct 2008 average). Visitors are predominantly well educated women aged 35+, living in the USA, who are, of course, avid readers:

88% buy at least one book each month, and almost half buy three or more books. 80% read 3 or more books each month, and 40% read 6 or more.  They are also very active in book clubs, with 51% belonging to at least one book club (16% are active members in two or more clubs).

BookBrowse recommends only the best current books, providing visitors with all the information they need to decide which are right for them. Each recommendation includes an excerpt and a wide range of media reviews (abbreviated to each reviewer's salient opinion) plus BookBrowse's own review and the back-story to the book (back-story topics vary widely by book but all have one simple aim – to add value to the reader's experience).

Every aspect of BookBrowse is designed to help visitors find their next great read fast - so they can spend more of their time reading books they truly enjoy, and less time seeking them out.

BookBrowse offers extensive free content to casual visitors, with additional premium content available to members, including our interactive online magazines. Members include individuals and (from late-2008) patrons of subscribing libraries.
