Google is going forward with plans to launch an e-book store by the end of the year. Google Editions will grow out of Google Books, the company's service for browsing and previewing books on the Web. Unlike Amazon, the Google Editions Web-based model will not require a singular platform for e-reading.
Google is expected to offer publishers a 52 percent share of the revenue from book sales, which is significantly lower than some other models such as Apple's iBooks which gives publishers 70 percent.
