Foyles outperforms market with profit up 500%

Sep 23 2010

Independent UK bookseller Foyles has increased its operating profit five-fold in the last year (to 30th June) to just under half a million pounds, bucking the trend in the overall market.

CEO Sam Husain said: "We're pleased because we see it as sustainable, it's not a one-off and it's not exceptional items that have helped the results, it's really something we see as sustainable and next year we hope to improve on that."

He added: "We've really concentrated on aspects that make a bookseller a destination, so you look a service, at quality of staff, at training, and all of these make each of our bookshops a special place to come and visit."
