The winners of the 2009 National Book Awards have been announced at the National Book Foundation's 60th National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner.
This year's winners are:
McCann dedicated his award to "one fan," another Irish-American writer, "good old Frank McCourt," who died earlier this year. "I think he's dancing upstairs."
Awards were also given to Gore Vidal for his "Distinguished Contribution to American Letters" and to Dave Eggers for "Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community."
