Groundbreaking report shares the book reading habits of students in American schools

May 06 2008

What Kids Are Reading: The Book-Reading Habits of Students in American Schools, from Renaissance Learning, claims to be the first comprehensive report to provide detailed information about the books school children are actually reading. The freely available report lists the top 20 books read in 2007 by students in grades 1 to 12, gleaned from Renaissance Learning's records of more than 3 million K–12 students in more than 9,800 schools nationwide who read more than 78 million books.

Parents and teachers will recognize titles old and new, from Dr Seuss (#1: Green Eggs and Ham) in 1st Grade; to Harper Lee (#1 To Kill a Mocking Bird) and J.K. Rowling (#2: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) in 9th through 12th grade.
