The Sacramento Bee reports that Sacramento based author William T Vollman (who won a National Book Award two years ago) and Baltimore-based Madison Smartt Bell have both won Strauss Living awards from The American Academy of Arts and Letters. The award, paid in five annual installments of $50,000 is awarded every five years with the intention that writers will have the freedom to write without the worry of supporting themselves.
