Margaret K. McElderry, the grande dame of children's book publishing, has died aged 98, having continued to edit books into her 90s. According to the New York Times, as a book editor she "employed shrewd intuition, critical acumen and a nurturing way with authors to help shepherd children's literature from a prewar cottage industry to today's billion-dollar business."
