Staples and RadioShack have removed the Amazon lockers from their stores a year after introducing the program. The program was aimed at customers in cities worried about the safety of packages being delivered to their doorstep or lobby - allowing them to pick up from a store instead. Staples and Radioshack had hoped that those coming to pick up their packages at a store would also shop there.
According to Demos Parneros, president of North American stores and online for Staples, Staples ended the test with Amazon after it "didn’t meet the criteria we set up together.” RadioShack stopped the program because it didn’t fit with its strategy, according to a company spokesperson.
