January 2013 USA bookstore sales up 5.5% versus December

January bookstore sales rose 5.5%, to $2.1 billion, compared to December 2012, according to preliminary estimates from the Census Bureau. Total retail sales in January rose 6.1%, to $382.4 billion, compared to the same period a year ago.
