Five finalists of the 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize announced

The following five books have been shortlisted for the 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize. The winner of the C$50,000 will be announced at a ceremony on October 30. Fifty-one publishing houses submitted 142 titles for consideration, the three person jury consists of novelists Gary Shteyngart and Roddy Doyle, and Canadian publisher Anna Porter.

  • 419 by Will Ferguson (not yet released in the USA, but available through online booksellers)
  • Inside by Alix Ohlin (Knopf, June 2012)
  • The Imposter Bride by Nancy Richler (St Martin's, January 2013)
  • Ru by Kim Thuy (Bloomsbury, late November 2012)
  • Whirl Away by Russell Wangersky (not yet released in the USA)
