Richard Charkin, executive director of UK Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury, has said territorial publishing rights are "obsolete" in the age of e-books and has accused the UK industry of "protectionism" in its bid to preserve them.
He also said scrapping the territorial rights system could make publishing more profitable. "Our problem as an industry isn't reach. Its margin, and one of the problems is that our overheads are very high."
