The life and reign of Elizabeth seems to offer the longevity and the power that would be the most appealing.Still not sure how I could manage without a proper bathroom and air conditioning.

I would have liked to be the doctor. He seemed to be the most sensible and most respected without all the political intrigue that everyone else seemed to be prey to. He was also a very kind and good person.

I would like to be a fly on the wall who gets to witness all that goes on without being involved. Too political for me

I like the idea of being the doctor. That way you have the freedom to move around without all the suspicion that surrounds everyone there.

I would like to be one of the Queens ladies in waiting. But I would have missed the education granted to the men. Perhaps Elizabeth's court would be interesting. She was highly educated.

The doctor had the freedom to come and go without too much suspicion. he still is the character I'd want to be.

I would not have wanted to be any part of this nest of liers, sycophants and idiots. It is amazing to me that England stayed a 'super' power during this time. The court was so busy manipulating and managing intrique that it is a wonder the work of State was ever accomplished. Once Henry got rid of Cromwell, it is a surprise that the country survived long enough for Elizabeth to reign.
But...if I had to be a member, I would want to be a 'Fool'. They were able to get away with stating the truth if they were very clever.

Actually JWW, England was hardly a super-power at this time - it was barely holding its own in Europe, let alone further afield. The Hundred Years War against France followed by dynastic civil wars known as the Wars of the Roses had left it in pretty bad shape financially.

It wasn't until very late in the 16th century, after the Spanish Armada, during the reign of Elizabeth I, that England started to stretch its international muscle when the monarch started to grant charters to private trading companies such as the East India Company.

The 15th and 16th centuries were arguably the age of exploration but the benefits of the lands claimed during this period weren't consolidated and developed until the 17th and 18th centuries - and Britain didn't start to get the upper hand in that until after the Acts of Union that joined England and Scotland as one nation in the early 18th century.

It is hard so say knowing what happens historically, but I would have wanted to be the doctor who pretty much did what he wanted if I were to pick without knowing - I would have loved to be Elizabeth really....she was truly Henry's daughter!

I don't think I would have wanted to be a member of the Tudor court. It seems one had to be very careful about what they said, what they believed in and who they associated with, but if I were to choose a member of the Tudor court, I would choose Cat Brandon; she was a loyal friend and seemed very level headed during all of the drama that was occurring.

This is a great question. I really love all things Tudor, but honestly I wouldn't have wanted to be living in the Tudor Court at that time. It would have been too stressful for me to manage who was my friend, my enemy or somewhere in between in order to avoid the block. The closest life I might have chosen for myself would have been Dot's after she left court and had her own Manor.

I'm in agreement with those who'd rather not have been in the Tudor court at all. The period was far too volatile and the court too dangerous. I wouldn't enjoy living in a time in which I had to be so careful what I said and did. Then again, these days we do have the NSA...

Hmm.
