I think Huicke and Katherine are true friends. Huicke offers his opinions and insight into political events surrounding court. His perspective is different from hers.

It is obvious that Huicke and Katherine formed a bond during her husband's illness. Her understanding of his sexual orientation and her kindness and care regarding his skin condition must have been a real epiphany for Huicke. Can't image what risks being a homosexual would have been in that time and place! Katherine found a connection with Huicke in that she was his match intellectually and they both possessed a kind heart. They learned to completely trust one another; something they didn't have with anyone else.

Huicke and Katherine are both outsiders at court. Huicke because of his skin disease and sexual orientation and Katherine because of her intellect and her seeming desire not to want to be there. Huicke took a risk admitting the true purpose of his visits to Katherine, but he seemed to realize it was an opportunity to forge a rare friendship with someone who shared his intellectual passions. It may also have been be quad he knew that the king was romantically interested in her which meant she had the potential to have influence at court. I don't think that was the primary reason, but it could have influenced the risk he took.

Huicke became Katherine truest friend; she trusted him completely. She was a compassionate person and accepted his homosexuality and his skin disease as part of what he was

It had to be a rare thing to find a true friend and kindred spirit in the court of King Henry VIII! Each shared a personal secret that could destroy them (Katherine for euthanizing her husband and Huicke's homosexuality) but neither one was judgmental. Rather they accepted and enjoyed each other just as they were. Huicke shared the nature of his visits with Katherine because he valued her friendship and didn't want to lose it.

Huicke is walking a fine line. If his secret is made common knowledge, he would be tried and found guilty of homosexuality. This secret he shares with Katherine, because he trusts her and he knows her secrets. It is mutual admiration and respect that they share. They are lucky to have one another.

In a court where it is so hard to realize who is friend or foe, they were able to enjoy each other as friends and intellectual equals with complete trust.

Huicke is very fond of Katherine and wants her friendship. He knows that secrets between them will harm that bond so he takes the chance that telling her the truth will not destroy what they have. They become the best of friends and help each other in many important ways throughout her time as Queen.
