How have things changed (or not) for small towns in America?

America is a land of opportunity, yet do you think this applies to Brownsburg? How have things changed (or not) for small towns in America?

I think technology has probably decreased the isolation that occurs in small towns. This exposure has most likely introduced the outside world and perhaps even caused more people to leave the small towns.

I believe small town life is disappearing. Life seems more complicated now. Progress lives everywhere. No one is immune.

I lived for a year when I was 9 in a town of about 200 people and loved it. It was great for a child in the early 1940s as there was unfettered freedom and support in and from the community. My mother hated living there, and I can now understand why. I've not lived in a town of less than 25,000 since then and most of my adult life have lived in large cities, so my experience with small towns is not current. However, when I visited a cousin in a small town similar to the one I lived in for that year about 10 years it ago, it took me back in time. Things seemed to be very much as they were when I was 9 and that's not all bad.

I sometimes wonder how things like Facebook and other social media have changed things in small towns. has it made things easier or more disorienting...
