Charles Clover Biography
Charles Clover has been the Environment Editor of The Daily Telegraph,
Britains biggest selling broadsheet paper, since 1987. He won the British
Environment and Medias National Journalist of the Year award in 1989, 1994 and
1996. Previously, he was an editor at The Spectator and a features writer for
the Daily Telegraph. He is a frequent contributor to BBC TV, Sky and BBC Radio
news, as well as Newsnight, the leading long-form television news program
in Britain.
In addition to his most recent book, The End of the Line, Clover is also
the co-author, with the Prince of Wales, of Highgrove: Portrait of an Estate,
(1993) a best-selling study of Prince Charless conversion to organic farming
and gardening, and a clarion call for sustainable farming and the reform of
Europes Common Agricultural Policy. He is a contributor to other books
including Interpreting the Precautionary Principle, edited by Tim
ORiordan, and The Environmental Impact of World War Two, the official
program for the 50th anniversary of VE day.
He is the founder and first chairman of the Spitalfields Society, a civic
society trying to rebuild the social and architectural fabric of an inner London
parish. He is the co-founder of the Agricultural Reform Group, a group promoting
agricultural reform; many of its objectives are now stated principles of British
Government policy. Clover is also a trustee of Dedham Vale Society, the society
dedicated to protecting the Dedham Vale area of outstanding natural beauty on
the Essex/Suffolk border, and a member of the Fisheries Reform Group.
He was educated at the Westminster School and York University where he studied
English and Philosophy. He lives in Essex with his wife and two sons.
