The Earth Hums in B Flat
I liked this book but am not sure I would recommend it to a friend. I found the writing uneven as it tries to convey to the reader the atmosphere and attitudes of small town living in the not so distant past.
Gwenni is a most lovable and creditable teller of the tale and her reactions to and reasonings about the behavior of those around her are true to life for a young teenager. The mixture of fantasy and reality was jolting to me at times but the ending neatly ties the two together with a gentle smile.
