Beneath The Shadows
As a lover of gothics, I was a bit sceptical when I started this book. Having grown up with REBECCA, I knew what a true gothic was. Happily this lived up to my expectations. It was indeed suspensful and haunting. Sara Foster gives you everything. Two brooding men, a heroine you care about and a tragic mystery. The setting in the North Yorkshire moors was just an extra bonus.

Beneath the Shadows
A story of a young couple who have inherited a house and move to North Yorkshire, a place where the husband spent a little time in his youth. (The place itself seems also to be a character in the book.) He disappears one day and the book covers the wife's determined plan one year later to find out what happened. It's a subtle but mesmerizing story that's hard to put down. You will want to read it in one sitting, as you're slyly pulled in, somehow knowing there's something dark somewhere. I loved it. If you enjoyed Rosamund Lupton's SISTER and AFTERWARDS, you'll enjoy this one.

losing oneself in the shadows
From the very first, Sara Foster's Beneath the Shadows had me in its thrall. Wild, snowy moors, secrets in the basement. . .suspenseful elements abound. Unique characters are marvelously depicted. The author weaves a wondrous tale, drawing readers into the sad plight of Grace, whose husband has suddenly disappeared.
This debut novel is a page-turner, leading us along eerie trails that involve a well-settled village and the newcomer: a young mother seeking answers.

Beneath the Shadows / Sara Foster
Loved the atmosphere and suspense. I made many guesses as to why Grace's husband disappeared and there were so many possible culprits; this book kept me guessing AND reading. In truth, I read it straight through. Would definitely read another book written by Sara Foster.

Would make a terrific TV movie
What happened to Grace's husband? He has disappeared "with out a trace". This novel has a great sense of place with a bit of old ghost stories and town folklore. The Yorkshire moors during a brutal, wild winter establish an extremely moody setting. It has pace, plot and is a satisfying escape.

An Enjoyable Read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and, despite sounding like a cliche, I quite literally couldn't put it down. The book is well written with a very suspenseful plot and has an interesting cast of intriguing characters. I was impressed that this was the author's debut novel and look forward to more from her.

Beneath the Shadows
Very readable and enjoyable book. I read it through in one day. It has an intriguing story line and enough suspense to keep the reader hooked. At times it does seem to veer towards a romance novel, but it does not linger there and overall it was interesting and easy to become immersed in the story and the characters' lives.
Stranger than fiction, blending tragedy and farce, How to Create the Perfect Wife is an engrossing tale of the radicalism, and deep contradictions, at the heart of the Enlightenment.
Although heavy on the scientific details, which slowed down the story for me (OK, I admit, I was one of those liberal arts majors who skipped out on...
