Niceville
Kind of a southern gothic, Niceville is a town with a few other worldly characters who calmly murder in cold blood and then take a literate note of their surroundings. This is a really good read that has sharp dialogue and those calculating masters of murder and mayhem. The story flows and although the ending is a little too abrupt, it will captivate you and make you wish for more.

Great writing and a page turner
The writing reminded me of a cross between Greg Isles and Stephen King; very visual and moved right along. There is an odd supernatural theme that while central to the story, seemed to actually interfere with the flow of the book. Enjoyed it nevertheless. Look forward to more from this author.

Entertaining
This supernatural suspense novel has something for everyone. There are so many characters and different plots and subplots, that everyone will find something interesting in here (even if you might be bored by some of the novel's elements). I really enjoyed the Southern Gothic feel of the book and the depth of characterization. Some of the numerous stories/events didn't fit nicely into a cohesive whole, but I was quite entertained nonetheless.

Nice or not
I enjoyed this story, told from multiple characters about a long-ago disappearance, cop killings, a bank robbery, and family. There is alot going on here and it took me a while to get into the story but once there, I didn't want it to end. A little thriller, a little horror, a little humor make for a good read.

Good Summer Read
if you are a fan of early Stephen King or Peter Straub, you will enjoy this book. Well-written, with engaging characters and a plot that kept me reading well into the night, I would recommend this for a lazy day in the hammock or on the beach. Just beware the chills the book will bring...

Hang on for a wild ride in a small town called Niceville, state unknown ( definitely Southern). The story begins with the mysterious disappearance of a ten year boy , and a bank robbery. In the space of 36 hours, twenty lives are disastrously affected , and people who should be upholders of the law........aren't. Both natural and supernatural , good and evil, are at work here. Sometimes it's difficult to tell who's who. Though tense and exciting, it"s a little too violent for me. If you like murder, suspense, and a breathtaking pace, this is the book for you.

Enjoyed this improbable mystery from Carsten Stroud. The dialog was entertaining and so was the story. I found the ending unsatisfying and difficult to understand, but then the book's charm is that it is an improbable southern gothic type of mystery!!
